The Sardane

La Sardane

Imported from Catalonia, the sardane is with no doubt the most picturesque catalan tradition.

Upon a festival or a contest, the sardane unwinds its garlands of raised-arms and, at the end, unite all the participants in a concentrice round dance for a "sardane of brotherhood". The Sardane lies on the cobla, singular orchestra of eleven instruments able to express the feelings the most tender as welle as the most passionated. This traditional dance alternates subtly eight short-step bars and sixteen long-step ones.

Ceret  and its festival in July knows perfectly its steps: concerts, contests... And if we don't watch it, a hand seizes our and takes us in the round. Let's dance!
